Discovery and Conservation of African Freshwater Biodiversity
I am working with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Red List of Threatened Species to assess the conservation status of freshwater species across tropical Africa. I've provided the Red List status for dozens of African freshwater fishes most of which are threatened and listed as either Vulnerable or Endangered. This work is critical as many of these species have restricted ranges and ongoing development and land-use change are negatively affecting these important freshwater habitats. In addition to writing assessments, I've served as an external reviewer for the assessments of over 200 species of threatened African freshwater fishes and mussels.
